Tirzepatide lowers HbA1c in non-obese Japanese T2D patients; BMI reduction linked to baseline.
Background
Current phase 3 trials for Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and obesity often exclude patients with a lower body mass index (BMI), leaving a significant gap in clinical evidence for non-obese populations, particularly prevalent in Asia. While tirzepatide, a dual GIP and GLP-1R agonist, is known for its glucose-lowering and weight-reducing effects, its efficacy and safety profile in individuals with T2D but without obesity (BMI <25 kg/m2) remain underexplored. This study addresses this critical need by evaluating tirzepatide's real-world effectiveness in this specific patient demographic.
