Tirzepatide Study to Map Gastric Emptying and Fasting Guidelines
Background
Tirzepatide, a dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist, is highly effective for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and obesity due to its impact on glucose metabolism and appetite suppression. A known side effect of GLP-1 agonists is delayed gastric emptying, which can lead to retained stomach contents even after prolonged fasting. This study aims to precisely quantify how fasting duration and temporary withholding of tirzepatide affect the amount of food and fluid remaining in the stomach.
