Ipamorelin Explored for Faster Post-Surgery Gut Recovery

Safety and Efficacy of Ipamorelin Compared to Placebo for the Recovery of Gastrointestinal Function

Background

Following small or large bowel resection with primary anastomosis, patients frequently experience post-operative gastrointestinal dysmotility, commonly known as post-operative ileus. This debilitating condition significantly prolongs hospital stays, increases healthcare costs, and delays patient recovery by impeding normal eating and bowel function. Current management strategies are largely supportive, highlighting a critical need for pharmacological interventions that can accelerate the return of normal GI function. This Phase II study specifically aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ipamorelin in reducing the time to recovery of gastrointestinal function in this challenging patient population.
