Melanotan II is a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), primarily recognized for its potent melanogenesis-stimulating effects, leading to skin tanning. Beyond its cosmetic appeal, this investigational peptide also acts as a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist, showing potential therapeutic applications in areas such as sexual dysfunction and metabolic disorders like obesity. Despite its widespread use, particularly within non-medical communities and often sourced from unregulated channels, there remains a significant gap in systematic, real-world data regarding user motivations, actual usage patterns, perceived benefits, and the full spectrum of self-reported adverse effects. This qualitative study aimed to bridge that knowledge gap by exploring the rich, unfiltered discussions found in online communities.
