MOTS-c Peptide Mitigates Muscle Wasting in Hindlimb Suspended Rats
The impact of mitokine MOTS-c administration on the soleus muscle of rats subjected to a 7-day hindlimb suspension.
Background
Prolonged periods of immobility, such as during bed rest or spaceflight, lead to significant muscle atrophy, the wasting away of muscle tissue. This condition severely impacts quality of life and recovery, particularly affecting weight-bearing muscles like the soleus. The mitokine MOTS-c, a mitochondrial-derived peptide, has shown promise in metabolic regulation and exercise capacity. However, its specific impact on preventing disuse-induced muscle atrophy in the soleus muscle under conditions of hindlimb suspension remains underexplored.
