Adjunctive Vitamin D and Phenylbutyrate for Tuberculosis Treatment
Immune Reconstitution in Tuberculosis Disease
Background
Tuberculosis (TB) remains a formidable global health crisis, particularly Pulmonary Tuberculosis, which causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Standard anti-tuberculosis treatment is effective but can be prolonged, complex, and associated with various side effects, highlighting a critical need for improved therapeutic strategies. This study addresses the specific knowledge gap regarding whether adjunctive therapies, specifically vitamin D (cholecalciferol) and phenylbutyrate (PBA), can enhance the efficacy of existing TB regimens and lead to significantly improved clinical recovery and immune reconstitution.
