Oral Ibutamoren Effectively Boosts Growth Hormone in Deficient Children
Background
Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) is a significant endocrine disorder characterized by insufficient production of growth hormone (GH), leading to impaired linear growth, reduced bone mineral density, and metabolic disturbances in children. Current standard treatments typically involve daily subcutaneous injections of recombinant human growth hormone, which can be burdensome for both children and their families, impacting adherence and quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of orally administered ibutamoren mesylate, a novel nonpeptide growth hormone secretagogue, in stimulating the endogenous growth hormone-insulin-like growth factor I (GH-IGF-I) axis as a potentially more convenient therapeutic alternative for children diagnosed with GHD.
