Self-Compassion Against Burnout in Dentistry

Background

Chronic dentist burnout is a significant concern, impacting mental health, professional performance, and patient care quality. High-stress professions often lead to psychopathological symptoms and dysregulation of biochemical parameters, yet few studies have concurrently assessed these psychological and physiological markers in dentistry. Current stress management strategies frequently fall short, highlighting a critical need for integrated, non-pharmacological interventions. This study addresses this gap by exploring how mindfulness-based self-compassion training, specifically the Mindfulness-Based Compassionate Living (MBCL) program, might modulate stress-related biomarkers like cortisol, IL-6, IL-1β, and oxytocin, alongside psychological well-being metrics. Understanding these integrated effects could offer a more holistic approach to mitigating occupational stress and enhancing resilience in dental professionals.
