Background
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a global health crisis, often co-occurring with obesity. While bariatric surgery is highly effective for weight loss and T2DM remission, not all patients achieve sustained remission, and the underlying mechanisms are complex. There's a critical need for adjunctive therapies to optimize surgical outcomes and improve long-term diabetes control. Oxytocin, a neuropeptide known for its roles in social bonding and metabolism, has shown promise in regulating appetite, glucose homeostasis, and insulin sensitivity, making it a compelling candidate to enhance metabolic improvements post-bariatric surgery. This study explores its potential to prime patients for better diabetes remission.
