Does Acupuncture Therapy Reduce the Need for Labor Induction After Postdate (Week 41)

Background

Prolonged pregnancies (beyond week 41) significantly increase risks of complications like meconium liquor, shoulder dystocia, and fetal death in uterus. Current medical induction at 41 weeks, using methods like cervical balloons, prostaglandins, or Pitocin, reduces these risks but can take 2-3 days with 60-70% success. There's a rising demand for natural labor induction methods to reduce reliance on conventional drugs, but research on their efficacy, such as acupuncture, is lacking. This study aims to investigate this gap.
