Background
End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients, particularly those on hemodialysis (HD), are highly susceptible to infections like H1N1 influenza due to their compromised immune systems. While annual influenza vaccination is recommended, the immunogenicity (the ability to provoke an immune response) in these uremic patients is often considered suboptimal, leaving them vulnerable despite vaccination. This pilot study aimed to address this critical gap by investigating if an immune modulator could enhance vaccine efficacy.
