GLP-1 receptor agonist exposure cut postmastectomy lymphedema risk by 62.7% in breast cancer survivors
Background
Postmastectomy lymphedema (PML) is a debilitating, chronic complication affecting breast cancer survivors, particularly after axillary surgery. Current management focuses on symptom control, but preventative strategies are limited. Obesity and metabolic inflammation are recognized risk factors for PML, contributing to impaired lymphatic function and tissue remodeling. Given the anti-inflammatory and metabolic benefits of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), this study investigated their potential role in mitigating PML risk by addressing these underlying contributors.
