Easypod® 3 and Easypod® 2 digital devices achieve over 92% adherence for r-hGH therapy
Background
Adherence to recombinant human growth hormone (r-hGH) therapy is paramount for achieving optimal growth outcomes in patients with growth hormone deficiency. Suboptimal adherence can significantly compromise treatment efficacy, leading to poorer growth trajectories and reduced quality of life. Traditional methods of monitoring adherence often rely on patient self-reporting, which can be inaccurate or inconsistent. Digital injection devices offer a more objective and reliable approach to track therapy adherence, providing valuable insights into real-world patient behavior and supporting better clinical management.
Study Design
This retrospective post-market clinical follow-up analysis compared adherence outcomes using real-world device logs. The study evaluated two generations of digital injection devices: Easypod® 3 (EP3) and Easypod® 2 (EP2). Adherence data was collected from the device logs over a 12-month period. The primary endpoint was mean adherence, with a secondary focus on the percentage of patients maintaining an acceptable threshold adherence, leveraging the devices' built-in data recording capabilities.
Results
At the 12-month mark, mean adherence rates were remarkably high and comparable between the two device generations. Easypod® 3 users demonstrated a mean adherence of 92.5%, while Easypod® 2 users showed a mean adherence of 92.4%. These findings indicate consistent performance across both device models. Furthermore, a significant proportion of patients, specifically more than 85%, successfully maintained an acceptable threshold adherence throughout the study period. This high adherence rate underscores the utility and reliability of connected injection devices for monitoring r-hGH therapy. The data supports the accuracy of device-recorded adherence information, highlighting its potential for clinical use.
Both Easypod® 3 and Easypod® 2 devices maintained mean adherence rates exceeding 92% over 12 months of recombinant human growth hormone therapy.
Key Findings
- Mean adherence for Easypod® 3 was 92.5% at 12 months.
- Mean adherence for Easypod® 2 was 92.4% at 12 months.
- More than 85% of patients maintained acceptable threshold adherence.
- Device-recorded adherence data is reliable for r-hGH therapy monitoring.
Why It Matters
This study provides compelling evidence that connected digital injection devices are highly effective tools for objectively monitoring adherence to r-hGH therapy and fostering patient engagement. For clinicians, this means more accurate, real-time data to guide treatment adjustments and identify patients needing additional support, potentially improving long-term growth outcomes. For patients and caregivers, these devices simplify tracking and provide a clear record of therapy, which can enhance motivation and self-management. The reliability of device-recorded data could transform how adherence is assessed, moving beyond subjective reports to data-driven insights, ultimately optimizing the therapeutic benefits of r-hGH.
