Cibinetide Safe for Diabetic Macular Edema, Shows Promise in Subgroup Analysis

A Phase 2 Clinical Trial on the Use of Cibinetide for the Treatment of Diabetic Macular Edema.

Background

Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) is a leading cause of vision impairment and blindness in individuals with diabetes, characterized by fluid accumulation and swelling in the macula, the central part of the retina. This condition is driven by chronic inflammation and increased vascular permeability. Current treatments, often involving repeated intravitreal injections, can be invasive and burdensome for patients. There is a pressing need for novel, less invasive therapeutic strategies that can effectively target the underlying inflammatory processes and reduce vascular leakage in DME.

Study Design

Population
Adults with diabetic macular edema (DME) and diabetes.
Intervention
Cibinetide (ARA-290), dose, route, and duration not specified in the digest.
Outcome
Safety and efficacy in reducing fluid accumulation and swelling in the macula, and improving vision impairment.
