Oral MK-677 Boosts Growth Hormone, Lean Mass, and Metabolism in Obese Adults
Two-month treatment of obese subjects with the oral growth hormone (GH) secretagogue MK-677 increases GH secretion, fat-free mass, and energy expenditure.
Background
Obesity is a widespread chronic disease marked by excessive body fat, increasing risks for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other metabolic disorders. Growth hormone (GH) is vital for metabolism and body composition, but its secretion often declines with age and obesity. While current obesity treatments exist, there's a continuous need for pharmacological strategies that can improve body composition and metabolic health. This study specifically addressed whether an oral GH secretagogue could safely and effectively increase GH secretion and improve body composition in obese individuals.
