Oral MK-677 Significantly Boosts Somatic Growth in Young Rats

Background

Growth hormone (GH) plays a crucial role in regulating somatic growth, bone density, and metabolism. The lower dose (0.5 mg/kg) also resulted in a substantial 14% increase in body weight gain (p<0.01). Serum IGF-1 levels, a direct indicator of GH activity, were significantly elevated: the high-dose group showed a 45% increase (p<0.0001), and the low-dose group a 30% increase (p<0.001) compared to controls. Furthermore, linear growth was positively impacted: naso-anal length increased by 7% in the high-dose group (p<0.001) and 4% in the low-dose group (p<0.05). Femur length also saw a 10% increase in the high-dose group (p<0.001). The most significant finding was the 22% increase in body weight gain and 45% elevation in IGF-1 levels in rats receiving 1.0 mg/kg MK-677, unequivocally demonstrating its potent growth-promoting effects.
