Tirzepatide Pilot Trial to Assess Feasibility and Tolerability for Cannabis Use Disorder Treatment

Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD) affects a significant subgroup of cannabis users, characterized by impaired functioning, tolerance, withdrawal, and distress. Existing pharmacological and psychosocial interventions for CUD often lack high success rates, highlighting a critical need for more effective treatments. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have shown promise in reducing cravings and intake for food and alcohol. Tirzepatide, a dual GLP-1R and GIPR agonist, has demonstrated efficacy in reducing alcohol consumption, suggesting a potential therapeutic role in other substance use disorders like CUD.
