New Trial Investigates Dual Therapy for Post-Surgery Complications in Aortic Dissection
Protective Effect of Ulinastatin and Thymosin α1 Against Negative Immune Dysregulation and Organ Dysfunction After Acute Aortic Dissection Surgery (PANDA XI)
Background
Acute Aortic Syndrome (AAS) and subsequent acute aortic dissection surgery frequently lead to severe post-operative complications, notably Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) and Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), which are primary drivers of mortality. While anti-inflammatory treatments exist, there remains a critical knowledge gap in effectively preventing these immune-mediated systemic dysfunctions. This PANDA XI study aims to determine if combining the anti-inflammatory agent Ulinastatin with the immunomodulatory peptide Thymosin α1 can significantly reduce the incidence of SIRS and MODS after AAS surgery.
