Background
The pathophysiology of insomnia, a prevalent sleep disorder, is often linked to increased levels of orexin-A (OXA), a neuropeptide produced by neurons in the lateral hypothalamus. Concurrently, orexins are known to play a significant role in the process of awakening from general anesthesia. Despite these established connections, there has been a notable absence of studies investigating the specific dynamics of arousal from anesthesia in patients diagnosed with insomnia.
