Background

Study Design
This is a double-blinded, randomized controlled trial (RCT) recruiting 60 participants aged ≥ 60 with end-stage knee osteoarthritis and sarcopenia from Prince of Wales Hospital. Participants are randomized into two groups: an intervention group (n=30) receiving Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) (Quantum Tx) treatment, and a control group (n=30) receiving sham treatment. Both groups will also receive home-based exercise. Primary endpoints include appendicular muscle mass (DXA), knee strength (handheld dynamometer), pain (VAS), and function (KOOS), measured at baseline, mid-treatment, end of treatment, and at 3, 6, and 12 months. Blood samples for serum myokines will also be taken.
