Liraglutide efficacy in insulin-resistant Type 2 diabetes patients on high insulin doses investigated
Background
Many Type 2 diabetes patients struggle to achieve glycemic targets, particularly those requiring high doses of insulin (greater than 50 U/day), which often indicates significant insulin resistance. Despite intensive insulin therapy, these individuals frequently do not reach target HbA1C levels. Liraglutide, a GLP-1 agonist, has demonstrated benefits in improving glycemic control, promoting weight loss, and carrying a low risk of hypoglycemia. However, its specific efficacy and safety profile in this highly insulin-resistant population, already on substantial insulin doses, remain largely unexamined, representing a critical gap in current treatment strategies.
