BI 836845 Phase I trial to determine maximum tolerated dose and safety in advanced solid tumors

Trial to Determine MTD of BI 836845 Administered Intravenously Once Every Three Weeks in Patients With Advanced Solid Tumours and Later a Weekly Dosing Schedule in Selected Tumour Types

Background

The insulin growth factor (IGF) pathway is a critical signaling cascade frequently implicated in the proliferation, survival, and metastasis of various solid tumors. Dysregulation of this pathway, often through overexpression of IGF-1R or its ligands, contributes to tumor progression and resistance to conventional therapies. Current cancer treatments often face challenges with efficacy in advanced stages and significant side effects. Targeting the IGF pathway offers a promising strategy to inhibit cancer growth by disrupting these fundamental cellular processes, addressing a significant unmet need in oncology. BI 836845 is a novel agent designed to block this pathway.
