New Study Combines Tirzepatide and Ixekizumab for Psoriasis and Obesity
Background
Plaque psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by red, scaly patches, often accompanied by significant discomfort and reduced quality of life. This condition frequently co-occurs with metabolic disorders like obesity or overweight, which can not only exacerbate psoriasis severity but also complicate treatment responses and worsen overall patient outcomes. While ixekizumab (an IL-17A inhibitor biologic) is a highly effective targeted therapy for psoriasis, the comprehensive impact of simultaneously addressing metabolic comorbidities like obesity remains an area requiring further investigation. This study directly addresses this gap by aiming to evaluate the real-world effectiveness of adding tirzepatide to existing ixekizumab therapy in patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis and concurrent obesity or overweight.
