Tirzepatide Effectively Reduces Weight Even When Patients Take Weight-Inducing Medications

Background

Many individuals with obesity or type 2 diabetes also require medications for other conditions, such as depression, schizophrenia, or inflammation, which are known to cause significant weight gain. Results

Patients on Tirzepatide 15 mg with WIMs achieved a mean body weight reduction of 18.7% (-19.2 kg) from baseline, compared to 22.1% (-22.8 kg) in those not on WIMs over 72 weeks. The difference in mean weight loss between the WIM and non-WIM groups was statistically insignificant for the 10 mg (p=0.12) and 15 mg (p=0.08) doses, indicating robust efficacy regardless of WIM use. The most significant finding was that patients receiving Tirzepatide alongside weight-inducing medications still achieved substantial mean body weight reductions of up to 18.7% from baseline, demonstrating its robust efficacy. Furthermore, 43% of patients on Tirzepatide 15 mg with WIMs achieved >15% body weight loss, compared to only 5% in the placebo group with WIMs (p<0.001). This represents a 2.3-fold greater weight loss in the Tirzepatide 15 mg WIM group compared to placebo.
