Thymosin Alpha 1 Boosts Immune Response Against SARS-CoV-2 Infection
The use of alpha 1 thymosin as an immunomodulator of the response against SARS-Cov2.
Background
The SARS-CoV-2 virus causes COVID-19, a disease characterized by a wide spectrum of severity, often involving significant immune dysregulation in severe cases, including lymphopenia (a condition of abnormally low levels of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell crucial for immune defense) and cytokine storms (an uncontrolled, excessive inflammatory response). Current treatments primarily focus on antiviral action or symptom management, but there remains a critical need for therapies that can directly modulate the host immune response to prevent severe outcomes. This study investigates if Thymosin Alpha 1 (TA1), a known immunomodulator, could improve the immune response and clinical outcomes in SARS-CoV-2 infection.
