SS-31 Peptide Protects Kidneys by Boosting Mitochondrial Function
SS-31 PubChem Profile
Background
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition characterized by declining kidney function, often driven by mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in renal cells. Current treatments slow progression but don't fully address the underlying cellular damage. There's a critical need for therapies that directly target mitochondrial health to preserve kidney function, and this study investigated whether SS-31 (Elamipretide) could mitigate renal injury and improve mitochondrial bioenergetics in a model of kidney disease.
