Leucine Boosts Body Composition, Prevents Weight Rebound in Obese Mice on GLP-1 Agonists
Leucine supplementation modulates body composition and early weight rebound during GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy in diet-induced obese mice.
Background
Obesity is a pervasive global health challenge, frequently managed with GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) which are highly effective in promoting significant weight loss. However, a critical drawback of these therapies is often the disproportionate loss of lean muscle mass, which can contribute to metabolic slowdown and subsequent weight regain after treatment cessation. This study addresses the knowledge gap by investigating whether leucine supplementation can effectively mitigate these adverse effects, specifically preserving lean mass and reducing early weight rebound during GLP-1 RA therapy.
