GLP-1 Agonists Significantly Reduce Heart Failure Risk in Diabetes and Obesity

Background

Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and Obesity are major global health challenges, significantly increasing the risk of developing Heart Failure (HF), a chronic and progressive condition where the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. Results

The analysis revealed a statistically significant and clinically meaningful reduction in heart failure events among patients treated with GLP-1 RAs. Compared to placebo or standard care, GLP-1 RA treatment resulted in a 25% relative risk reduction in the composite endpoint of heart failure hospitalization or urgent visit for heart failure (RR 0.75, 95% CI 0.70-0.80, p<0.001). This benefit was consistent across different GLP-1 RA compounds and patient subgroups.
