Retatrutide Investigated for Obesity, Overweight, and Related Conditions

The global prevalence of obesity and overweight continues to rise, posing significant public health challenges and increasing the risk of numerous comorbidities such as knee osteoarthritis (OA) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Current treatments often have limited efficacy or side effects, highlighting an urgent need for novel, more effective therapeutic strategies. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of retatrutide as a once-weekly treatment for individuals with obesity or overweight, specifically addressing its impact on associated conditions like OA and OSA.

As an active, non-recruiting clinical trial, specific results are not yet available; however, the study is designed to rigorously evaluate key outcomes. Researchers will primarily assess the percentage change in body weight from baseline, expecting to demonstrate significant weight reduction compared to placebo. Secondary endpoints include changes in BMI, waist circumference, and improvements in clinical markers related to knee osteoarthritis (e.g., pain scores, physical function) and obstructive sleep apnea (e.g., apnea-hypopnea index). Safety will be comprehensively evaluated through the incidence of adverse events and changes in clinical laboratory parameters.
