Childhood Obesity Poses Growing Heart Health Threat to Youth by 2050
Childhood Obesity and Cardiac Risk in Youth: Emerging Challenges Toward 2050.
Background
Childhood obesity is a significant and growing global health crisis, strongly linked to an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) later in life. These risks include hypertension (high blood pressure), dyslipidemia (unhealthy cholesterol and fat levels in the blood), and type 2 diabetes, which can lead to premature heart attacks and strokes. This review aims to synthesize current understanding and project future challenges regarding childhood obesity's impact on cardiac health in youth towards 2050.
