Study assesses safety of Bremelanotide when taken with alcohol
Phase I Randomized Placebo-controlled, Double-blind Study of the Safety and Tolerability of Bremelanotide Coadministered With Ethanol in Healthy Male and Female Participants.
Background
Bremelanotide is a synthetic peptide that acts as a melanocortin receptor agonist, primarily targeting the MC4R receptor, and is approved for treating premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). Given that patients often consume alcohol, understanding potential drug-alcohol interactions is critical for ensuring patient safety and establishing comprehensive prescribing guidelines. Despite its therapeutic potential, there was a significant knowledge gap regarding the safety and tolerability of coadministering Bremelanotide with ethanol in a controlled clinical setting.
