Vegan Diet and Exercise: Impact on Thigh Muscle Volume in Older Adults
The Effect of a 12-week Self-composed Vegan Diet With or Without Concurrent Resistance Exercise on Thigh Muscle Volume in Older Adults
Background
Sarcopenia, the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength, and function, is a major public health challenge in older adults, increasing risks of falls, frailty, and disability. While plant-based diets are recognized for benefits in cardiovascular health and gut health, their specific role in muscle preservation, especially with resistance exercise, is not fully understood. This study addresses whether a self-composed vegan diet, with or without concurrent resistance exercise, can effectively maintain or increase thigh muscle volume in older adults.
