Combination Therapy Explored for Acute Ischemic Stroke Recovery
Combination therapy of Epidermal Growth Factor and Growth Hormone-Releasing Hexapeptide in acute ischemic stroke: a phase I/II non-blinded, randomized clinical trial.
Background
Acute ischemic stroke is a devastating neurological event caused by a blocked blood vessel in the brain, leading to rapid brain cell death and long-term disability. Current treatments primarily focus on restoring blood flow, but there's a significant need for therapies that can protect brain tissue and promote recovery after the initial injury. Existing neuroprotective strategies have largely failed in clinical trials, highlighting a critical gap. This study addresses the potential of combining Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) and Growth Hormone-Releasing Hexapeptide (GHRP-6) to improve outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients.
