Novel lipase inhibitors, cetilistat and GT-389255, were in development to block fat absorption, alongside AOD-9604, a human growth hormone fragment designed to increase adipose tissue breakdown. Of all the compounds reviewed, rimonabant was the most advanced, having completed Phase III clinical trials, indicating its proximity to potential market approval at the time.
