Thymosin-Alpha-1 and Dendrimers Boost Immunity Against HCMV Infection
Enhanced Immunomodulatory Effects of Thymosin-Alpha-1 in Combination with Polyanionic Carbosilane Dendrimers against HCMV Infection.
Background
Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a widespread opportunistic pathogen that can cause severe disease in immunocompromised individuals, such as transplant recipients and AIDS patients, and can lead to congenital disabilities. Despite existing antiviral treatments, HCMV infection often persists, leading to chronic health issues and a significant burden on healthcare systems. Current therapies often have side effects or limited efficacy, highlighting the urgent need for novel strategies to enhance the host's immune response against the virus. This study specifically addresses how combining Thymosin-Alpha-1 with polyanionic carbosilane dendrimers can synergistically improve immunomodulatory effects against HCMV.
