Tesamorelin Investigated for Liver Fat and Histology in HIV Patients
Tesamorelin Effects on Liver Fat and Histology in HIV
Background
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is frequently complicated by liver disease, with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) affecting approximately 30-40% of patients. A more severe form, Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), involves inflammation, cellular damage, and fibrosis alongside increased liver fat, posing significant health risks. Effective and targeted treatments for NAFLD and NASH specifically in HIV-infected individuals remain an unmet medical need, driving the necessity for therapeutic exploration.
