Semax Peptide Shows Promise Against Prenatal Amphetamine-Induced Cognitive Deficits

Attenuation by a novel synthetic analogue of ACTH4-7 of the learning and memory deficits in juvenile rats treated with amphetamine in utero: role of nitric oxide

Background

The alarming frequency of drug abuse among pregnant women often leads to selective impairments of attention and other cognitive disorders in their children. This study aimed to examine the impact of prenatal stress (PS) induced by the psychostimulant drug amphetamine (AMPH) on memory functions in male rat offspring. It also sought to investigate the possible neuroprotective action of Semax, a novel Russian peptide and synthetic analogue of ACTH4-7, and to understand the role of neuronal messenger nitric oxide (NO) and lipid peroxidation (LPO) in the mechanisms of PS.
