Background
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a debilitating, chronic condition causing pain and limiting mobility, affecting over 565 million people globally. Its prevalence is projected to increase by 60-100% by 2050, driven by an aging population and rising obesity rates, which account for approximately 20% of OA cases. Despite known risk factors like age, obesity, genetics, and socioeconomic deprivation, there's a critical need for current, comprehensive epidemiological data on OA from large, contemporary population cohorts to better understand its complex risk profile.
