New Oral Semaglutide Formulation Matches Current Version's Drug Levels
A Research Study Comparing Active Drug in the Blood in Healthy Participants Following Dosing of the Current and a New Formulation (C) Semaglutide Tablets
Background
Semaglutide is a widely recognized GLP-1 receptor agonist (a class of drugs that mimic a natural hormone to lower blood sugar and promote weight loss) used effectively for managing type 2 diabetes and obesity. While an oral formulation already exists, new formulations are explored to improve manufacturing or patient convenience. This study specifically compared the bioavailability—the proportion of a drug that enters the circulation and is able to have an active effect—of a novel oral semaglutide formulation (Semaglutide C) against the currently marketed oral formulation in healthy individuals.
