Semaglutide and Combination Therapy Explored for NASH Cirrhosis
Study of Semaglutide, and Cilofexor/Firsocostat, Alone and in Combination, in Adults With Cirrhosis Due to Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH)
Background
Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), characterized by liver inflammation and damage, which can progress to cirrhosis and liver failure. Currently, there are no approved pharmacological treatments specifically for NASH cirrhosis, representing a significant unmet medical need. This Phase 2 study investigated the safety and efficacy of semaglutide, and a fixed-dose combination of cilofexor and firsocostat, alone and together, in adults with compensated NASH cirrhosis.
