This study addresses the critical knowledge gap regarding the quality and reliability of semaglutide-related information available on TikTok and Bilibili.
Study Design
Results
The analysis of 200 videos revealed significant issues with information quality and reliability. Using the JAMA benchmark criteria, only 15% of TikTok videos and 22% of Bilibili videos were deemed high quality, indicating a pervasive lack of evidence-based content. The average Global Quality Scale (GQS) score was notably low, at 2.1/5 for TikTok and 2.5/5 for Bilibili, further underscoring the poor overall quality of information available. > A staggering 68% of videos on TikTok and 55% on Bilibili contained misleading or non-evidence-based claims regarding semaglutide's efficacy, side effects, or appropriate use, posing substantial risks to public health. Furthermore, 75% of the analyzed content originated from unverified users or influencers, with a mere 8% posted by verified healthcare professionals, highlighting a severe deficit of authoritative sources. Critically, 40% of videos provided incorrect or potentially dangerous advice on semaglutide dosage and administration, which could encourage unsafe self-medication practices among viewers.
