Estrogen Receptor Blockade Explored for Growth Hormone Regulation in Older Adults

Estradiol-Receptor Blockade in Older Men and Women

Background

Testosterone (Te) repletion in older men is known to boost Growth Hormone (GH) secretion, primarily after its conversion to estradiol (E2), which then acts through the estrogen receptor (ER). In contrast, postmenopausal women experience natural estrogen decline, potentially impacting their GH/IGF-I axis (the system regulating growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1) and contributing to conditions like metabolic syndrome. This pilot study aimed to investigate how blocking the estrogen receptor in both older men and women affects GH and IGF-I levels, and its potential link to metabolic health.
