Cagrilintide and Semaglutide Combination for Enhanced Weight Loss and Metabolic Control
Background
Obesity and type 2 diabetes represent pressing global health crises, significantly increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, and premature mortality. While existing pharmacotherapies, such as semaglutide (a GLP-1 receptor agonist), have demonstrated considerable efficacy in promoting weight loss and improving glycemic control, a substantial number of individuals still struggle to achieve their target weight or optimal metabolic health. This ongoing challenge highlights an unmet medical need for more potent and comprehensive treatment strategies. The REDEFINE 5 study specifically addresses the critical knowledge gap regarding whether the co-administration of cagrilintide and semaglutide can offer superior efficacy and safety compared to semaglutide monotherapy in adults living with overweight or obesity, with or without type 2 diabetes.
