Background

The work of Selye and Szabo established cysteamine-induced duodenal ulcers in rats as a classic and severe model for studying gastrointestinal damage. Additionally, gastric dopamine levels were observed to be elevated by 1.8-fold in the treated animals, which correlated strongly with improved ulcer healing and reduced tissue damage, suggesting a local mechanism of action.
